Meet Zach M

Meet: Zach Matteson

Age: 15
Glacier High school
Artistic Medium: Tie-Dye
Located in: Kalispell, Montana
Contact at: www.inspiringcolor.etsy.com

Mando: How did you fall into this chosen art?
Zack: I stumbled across Tie-dye in the summer of 2006 when I "vat" dyed with my mom with a couple of shirts. Roughly a year later, mid-march, I was accepted into Interlochen summer arts camp and was in desperate need of money. At first, I was thinking of recycling ink cartriges but then my mother suggested Tie-Dye. I laughed at the thought but then I began to seriously think on it and very soon after we had made our first order from Dharma trading co.

Mando: In addition to the one you already have, which talent would you like to acquire?
Zack: In addition to music and tie-dye I think that it would be sweet if i could learn to paint/draw. It would be a great accomplishment and I think it would expand my creative ability.

Mando: What would you like to achieve in the coming year?
Zack: In the coming year I would like to come back from Tanglewood this summer a better violin player and continue to grow in my music(keep gaining momentum).

Welcome Zach, and we wish you the best of luck as a surface design artist, and please send us tickets to your first concert hall performance...We will be waiting!

Mando in his studio

Mando finally got a marble block so we don't have to fight over the same work space. Pretty soon we will be fighting over tools too!

Becoming a TEAM

My brother, Mr. Work Ethic himself, suggested that I tell my son to get a job, if he wants allowance money. Ok, Patrick, he is 10, there are child labor laws in place in this country.

I took it one step further and thought I would teach him the leather craft. He could use his skills as an artisan, and learn to be an entrepreneur at an early age.

It will help his resume when he applies to Harvard Business School too!

He has gotten very good at it. Hmmmm what do they say about apples and trees? Now he has his own site....
